Blink 182 first Grammy nomination

Blink 182 -The band’s studio effort California has been nominated for Best Rock Album The 2017 Grammy nominations were revealed this morning, and boy, did they include some noteworthy items. Along with a Best Rock Performance category pitting Beyoncé and Disturbed against one another (???), the Best Rock Album frontrunners featured Blink-182 — marking the very first time the band’s received a Grammy nod. The acknowledgement is long overdue, considering Blink-182 formed and made their first dick joke some 25 years and seven albums ago. Despite releasing acclaimed records like 2001’s Take Off Your Pants and Jacket and 1999’s Enema of the State — which produced *two* hit singles, “What’s My Age Again?” and “All The Small Things” — the group’s nomination is for California. Their seventh LP to date is decent enough, but let’s be real, it probably won’t be considered a canon classic any time soon. (Read: The Highs and Lows of Blink-182) Of course, the Grammys are notorious for this kind of stuff — lauding groups’ less-than-the-best work as sort of a course correction for all the times they completely overlooked their better releases. Remember Arcade Fire in 2011? At the end of the day, however, a nod is a hell of a lot better than nothing at all, and better late than never. One can’t help but feel bad for Tom DeLonge, though, the band’s former longtime guitarist, who quit just last year and was replaced by Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba. Hope those UFOs were worth it, Tom! For those wondering whether a pop-punk band — one of the top 100, to be exact — has a shot at winning a Grammy, consider this: My Chemical Romance, Paramore, and Green Day have all nabbed awards in recent years.
